The effects of poverty on cognitive function

Lacking money or time can lead one to make poorer decisions, possibly because poverty imposes a cognitive load that saps attention and reduces effort.

I had thought I shared this before, but I couldn’t find it in the archives.
The researchers talk about cognitive load. What is cognitive load? Think of your brain as a computer, and like a computer running too many programs, so does the brain when you’re juggling too many thoughts. Poverty, by itself, can increase a person’s cognitive load.
